A Michelin restaurant essay on Gangnam, the battlefield of the stars. In 2023, more than half of Seoul's 35 starred restaurants — 20 in all — clustered into Gangnam's fine-dining map.

In 2023, there are 35 restaurants in Seoul that received at least one star from the Michelin Guide. More than half of them, or 20 restaurants, are located in Gangnam-gu. Gangnam-gu is home to everything from ‘restaurants with excellent cuisine that are worth a special trip to taste’, ‘restaurants with excellent cuisine that are worth visiting from afar’, and ‘restaurants with excellent cuisine’. Indeed, the expression ‘War of the Stars’ is not a waste.

Restaurant

Jungsik, the restaurant of chef Lim Jeong-sik, who opened his eponymous restaurant Jungsik in New York and received the distinction of being selected as a Michelin 2-star restaurant two years later. This is a space where you can experience unfamiliar yet familiar Korean food as Chef Lim Jeong-sik is credited with creating a new genre called New Korean, which dramatically recreates the ingredients of traditional Korean food. In addition to the lunch and dinner courses, there is a separate course for vegetarians. At the Jeongsik Cafe on the first floor of Jeongsikdang, you can taste Jangdokdae, the signature dessert of Jeongsikdang. In addition, Ipoyu, a Vietnamese restaurant located inside Hotel Anteroom Seoul located in Sinsa-dong, is also operated. Jeongsikdang Seolleung-ro 158-gil 11

Gaon

‘Michelin 3 stars for 7 consecutive years’ Does any further explanation need to be explained? Receiving a star is difficult, but maintaining that position is even more difficult. Gaon is currently developing and achieving that goal. The basis of the Korean food served at Gaon is fresh seasonal ingredients from our land and water. Gaon's course starts with five natural flavors that capture the taste of the vibrant season and ends neatly with five mouth-watering mouth-watering dishes, and the beautiful Gwangju ceramics frame the dishes to make them stand out even more. The elegant interior with a Hanok motif has four rooms separate from the hall, making it perfect for quiet gatherings. 317 Gaondosandaero, M floor

Mingles

Restaurant Mingles is named after the English word mingle, which means ‘to mix, to blend together.’ As the name suggests, Mingles' cuisine respects the foundation of Korean food and shows a new color by adding Chef Kang Min-gu's unique skills and sensibility. It looks like French or Italian at first glance, but when you taste it, it's definitely our Korean food. Mingles is a Michelin 2-star restaurant and ranked 16th among the 50 Best Restaurants in Asia in 2022, the highest among Korean restaurants. Mingles 2nd floor, Hilltop Building, 19 Dosan-daero 67-gil

Muoki

Muoki by chef Moo-Hyun Park, who has experience in various regions including the US, UK, Australia, and South Africa. Ranked as a Michelin One Star Restaurant for three consecutive years. Although it is difficult to specify which country's cuisine it is, a dish that retains the original taste of the ingredients and reflects the chef's creativity can be said to be Muoki's. The sight of them busy in the open kitchen is reassuring and trustworthy. 2nd floor, 12-12, Muoki Hakdong-ro 55-gil
